Everybody is shaking their heads wondering what happened to Big Brown, with seemingly no answers. Is it just me and a very few others questioning Desormeaux's ride? I hear so often how the beginning of a race is absolutely crucial, and for the life of me I can't figure out what KD was doing. Big Brown had a fast, clean break on the rail with an open path to stay there for however long he wanted to, and the jock is yanking BB's head trying to get him to the outside way before the turn, bumping other horses, checking the horse's momentum, trying to put the horse where he obviously didn't want to go. You got a horse pent up all week wanting to run and do more, he finally gets the opportunity, and he's steadied right out of the gate?? In my view that was all the jock's doing, not rankness, and as a few others have expressed, the horse very well could have simply been PO'ed. Ivarone says the horse was "angry" the next morning. If the horse is sound, works well during the week, is as intelligent as this horse is, could shutting down out of spite be an explanation? Desormeaux thought he had a horse once he Katy bar the door got to his spot - that is until he asked BB to "engage" the leader. He also says he knew well before the last turn he had no horse - so when exactly did he know? Out of the gate he looked like he had plenty of horse - until he started making him do something he didn't want to do. BB wins his maiden along the rail wire to wire. Once he made the lead in the Fl Derby he does the same thing. You can't tell me he couldn't have done the same thing here given the opportunity. I also heard a report the day of BB's last workout that said BB looked great with Nevin and "horrible" with Desormeaux - Dutrow said the horse was all over the track. Now it makes me wonder. Desormeaux says he can put this away in his mind without a second thought, but I'll always have second thoughts. I just hope BB gets a shot to redeem himself.

the horse was "crashing" off the
steriods; plain and simple. He has
been given long term winstrol and
suddenly it's gone; he needs it.
